news from June and onward to July

July 11th, 2012

June and July news

This is a few of the brave souls, who ventured out on the cold nights of June, and enjoyed the music by local and visiting performers.

Our entertainer come in all sizes this is one of our latest 6years old Catilyn “a real future star”

Brumby’s Run paid us a visit

Let’s hope we have a good roll up for the first of our Hoedowns, which takes place at our host club Five Islands Recreation Club 3pm Sunday the22nd of July. As well as having our loyal local artists, who regular entertain on Tuesday nights we are fortunate to also have Aubrey and Martin along with Snowy Robson appearing on the day.

Each year the Steel City Country Music Club is asked to help a charity. For many years the club ran regular concerts with Gina Jeffreys and a whole bunch of her friends. This year we have been asked to help raise money for Cancer Research. Two Ladies from the Country area of Guyra and Tenterfield, whose husbands have gone through cancer rehabilitation decided to raise money for the research like most depend mostly on donations to survive. They had what they thought possibly the biggest steer in the country “Big Joe” There idea was to take it to all the local shows where you were asked to guess the weight. They also had a song written about the steer, with all proceeds from the CD along with merchandise, stubby holders and caps going to the foundation. After a slow start everything was falling into place with Joe set to lead out the grand parade for the Brisbane show in August. Then the unthinkable happened.  Somehow or another contaminated food was fed to the cattle. The result a number of animals died from the food unfortunately Joe was amongst them.

Big Joe at the Guyra show

Now what to do with the merchandise? Our money from the raffles from the Hoedowns, and a grand concert with Gina Jeffreys and co, to climax our festival in October with the proceeds going to Cancer Research.

Our Talent Quest entry forms can be downloaded from our Web site. As well as Prize money, Trophies and certificates the winners of the Male, Female and senior Junior will get to perform on the Sunday concert with Gina and co
